Mission Statement
The MOET Institute is an independent, dedicated continuing medical education and research organization established to fulfill the surgical skills training needs of practicing physicians and physicians-in-training. MOET specializes in formal, personal tutorial-style microsurgical and laparoscopic surgical training to residents, fellows, physician assistants, and practicing clinicians. Emphasis is placed on imparting fundamental principles and skills while strengthening the surgeon’s ability to perform with precision, efficiency, confidence, and safety.
Educational Philosophy
Having been involved in continuing medical education since 1972, the faculty at the MOET Institute is endowed with a wealth of experience and a passion for education in microsurgery and laparoscopic surgery. MOET is committed to providing a structured, innovative, and dynamic learning process to novices and experienced surgeons alike, offering a curriculum that draws from well-established surgical approaches as well as current and evolving techniques and modalities.
The MOET Institute conducts courses in small class settings to provide course participants with the maximum amount of personalized attention, support, and feedback. Open, dynamic dialogue between instructors and participants is encouraged in a collegial, non-competitive atmosphere.
Associated Fellowship & Residency Programs
The MOET Institute is closely affiliated with the Buncke Clinic in San Francisco, which involves training their plastic and reconstructive, orthopedic, and hand surgery fellows in microneurovascular techniques as well as providing facilities for their laboratory research projects. The original association between MOET faculty and the Buncke Clinic dates back to the early 1970’s.
The MOET Institute is also affiliated with the Swedish Medical Center’s Podiatric Surgical Residency Program (formerly known as the Waldo Podiatric Surgical Residency Program and the Fifth Avenue Hospital Podiatric Residency Program) in Seattle and has been training their podiatry residents since 1981. For a number of years, the MOET Institute has also been training podiatric residents from other institutions, including St. Joseph’s Hospital in Chicago and Kaiser Permanente Northern California.
The MOET Institute has a longstanding relationship with the Kaiser San Francisco Ob-Gyn Residency Training program, and MOET is an integral part of its laparoscopic surgical skills curriculum. MOET also trains Ob-Gyn residents from Kaiser programs in Oakland and Santa Clara.
